Route Overview

Our suggested walking route takes you from the historic Landguard Point to the serene Old Felixstowe. Enjoy stunning sea views, explore historical sites, seeing the side of Felixstowe that most drivers never get to experience. 

Flat - No Hills!

Head towards Landguard Point and see what is is over the fence from Landguard Terminal. Walk along the shore to the Pier and Spa Pavilion with restored Seafront Gardens. Continue to Old Felixstowe, or head back to the Truck Stop early.

Head To Landguard Point

Begin your walk at Landguard Point, a site rich in history and natural wonder. Home to the formidable Landguard Fort and a diverse nature reserve, this starting point offers a unique glimpse into the past and present of Felixstowe’s coastal landscape.

Walking to the viewing point itself is a nice walk. A cafe awaits (day times) and you can see what is on the other side of the fence from Landguard Terminal.

Walk along the promenade or swerve onto the A roads of the sea front. Lush gardens and features to walk through. Take your time.

Felixstowe Pier

Felixstowe Peir is half way along if you want a shorter walk. Arcades, coffee over the water and the push penny sliders!

Walking Distance and Duration

You are one mile from the start. But one mile short of the return leg!

The walk from Landguard Point to Old Felixstowe covers approximately 6.5 miles (10.5 km). Depending on your pace and the number of stops you make to enjoy the sights, it typically takes between 2 hours to complete, and then the walk back. Factors such as weather conditions and personal fitness levels can affect the overall duration.

It’s advisable to allocate extra time for exploring the various points of interest along the route, such as the historic Landguard Fort and the tranquil Seafront Gardens.

Taking breaks at the cafes and rest stops along the promenade can also enhance your walking experience and there really are plenty to choose from.

A Bit Too Much? Four Shorter Walks For You.

Landguard Common.

30 minutes walk. 

The nature reserve, half a mile away with an old fort and walks with a view over the Port fence. Quite the contrast.

Viewing Point Cafe.

30 minutes walk. 

Also half a mile away by the nature reserve. Watch the ships from the cafe, indoors or outside seating.

The Pier - head left at the beach.

15 minutes walk. 

The bar over the sea, with amusements and an arcade with all you would expect from a sea side town. 

Beach St - bars and good food.

2 minutes walk. 

Fine food and drinks with boutique bars to make the road a distant memory for just a few hours.
