Felixstowe Truck Stop has been featured on BBC Look East for its work supporting the health and wellbeing of UK truck drivers. The BBC team visited after hearing about our regular blood pressure checks, free water initiative, and education on driver hydration. These simple but vital services are helping drivers stay healthy on the road and have put Felixstowe Truck Stop in the national spotlight.

BBC Look East reporter Debbie Tubby contacted us after learning about the Felixstowe Community First Responder Group’s regular on-site blood pressure checks, walking routes on the website and our focus on driver hydration with free bottles of water for every driver, every day.

Transport Equipment Services kindly loaned us a truck for filming, with their driver Ian Marsh taking part in interviews to share his experience of life on the road. Ian spoke openly about the loneliness of truck driving and how supportive truck stops can make a difference.

During filming, our manager Lou was interviewed about her daily work welcoming drivers, listening to their concerns, and creating a friendly, safe space. Lou’s caring approach embodies the ethos of Felixstowe Truck Stop: to provide more than just a meal and a parking space.

Heavy goods driver Jenny Jack also appeared in the BBC feature. Jenny praised our home-cooked food, clean showers, laundry facilities, and welcoming atmosphere. She highlighted how rare it is to find a truck stop that offers both excellent facilities and a genuinely friendly environment, noting that it makes a “massive difference” to life on the road.

Co-owner Matt Dangerfield explained on camera why Felixstowe Truck Stop was built with drivers in mind.

With many truck stops across the UK closing or cutting services, Matt is determined to provide a safe and secure alternative.

He stressed that lay-by parking offers no security or welfare support, and that truck drivers deserve better – and that is exactly what we are doing at Felixstowe Truck Stop.
